Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art that focuses on ground fighting and submission holds. It involves the use of leverage, technique, and timing to control and defeat opponents, regardless of size and strength.

At Yamasaki Academy Woodbridge, our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program is designed to build a strong foundation in both self-defense and sport BJJ. Our curriculum covers everything from fundamental techniques to advanced strategies, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of this dynamic art form.  All BJJ classes are taught by Black Belts in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

ACADEMY AMENITIES

We have over 3000 sq ft of matted training area divided into three sections.  The “Grappling” training area is 1500 sq ft and uses a unique floating floor system of high density foam blocks attached to plywood.  Our Tatami style mats then sit on top of the plywood to create a slightly bouncy floor that absorbs impact and reduces injury.

We have a strict “No shoes on the mats, no bare feet on the floor” policy at the Academy.  But, just in case, we have multiple Defense Soap Foot Cleaning Stations positioned around the training areas for students to clean their feet when getting on the mats.  We also keep extra flip-flops and slides in the locker rooms and by the bathrooms for students to use.

The Academy has multiple Google Nest cameras covering the training areas.  This allows us to stream classes remotely as well as record and store every class for up to 30 days so students can get access to training and sparring content.  We also use have 4 distinct timers for each training area that are controlled by wall-mounted tablets.

Not getting hurt is possible without having to hurt someone else. BJJ teaches one how to neutralize strength and size in their opponent using as little effort as possible.

CONFIDENCE

Progress in BJJ will be because of the effort the student puts in. Students learn that they are rewarded directly for their own efforts.

HEALTH AND FITNESS

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is true anaerobic training that requires bursts of energy in between more relaxing movements.

DISCIPLINE

BJJ is probably the most difficult Martial Art in which to earn belts.  Everything you do will be earned.

FOCUS

Pay attention to the details. BJJ can’t be learned if you aren’t paying attention to what you are being taught.
