About Coach Cisco

My Story.

Coach Francisco Salguero posing

Born and raised in the DMV, I have been training in some form of martial art/ combat sport since childhood.

I started in traditional martial arts at 9 years old at John Rhee Tae Kwon Do in Annandale, VA; eventually achieving black belt. I started wrestling my junior year in high school at Edison high school and also took up boxing. I continued wrestling after high school participating in several clubs and being and assistant coach at Edison high school and West Springfield high school. I continued my boxing training at Boys and Girls Club in Washington, DC. Always looking to challenge myself and continue to learn I began training Judo with Mark Mastrofrensco in 1999.

After moving to Houston TX in 2000 I had my initial introduction into mixed martial arts (mma) as a complete discipline where I could unitize and expand my previous individual combat sports experience. I began training with professional world ranked boxer  Lewis Wood and mma pioneer and legend Yves Edwards. I also competed in the Southwest Golden Gloves tournament.

Upon returning to DMV in 2003 I started looking for a gym to continue to train, I eventually found my new home at Yamasaki Academy in Springfield. Never losing my taste for MMA and encouragement from Professor Fernando Yamasaki I made my amateur mma debut in 2007, fighting as a lightweight for the Gladiator Fight Club in Winchester, VA. In 2010 I made my professional mma debut at Washington Combat as a feather weight; later fighting for One World MMA named professional fighter of the year for 2011.

As the head mma coach I have been able to lead one of most successful mma teams in the DMV; winning titles at various weight classes and several local promotions: Operations Octagon, Lights Out Combat, One World MMA, and Gladiator Fight Club to name few.

I received my Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt under Fernando Yamasaki and Francisco Neto in 2016 and am currently a 2nd degree Black Belt. I have also received a  brown belt in Judo under coach Kenton Givens.
