About Coach Joe
My Story.
My Mission.
I believe in what we do. I know how much different I am as a result of the training that I received and continue to receive. And I know how much different it will make you. But you have to start to achieve those goals.
I started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with Mario Yamasaki and the Yamasaki team in 1998 on some old wrestling mats laid out in a racquet ball court that we had to roll up every night. I had seen what Royce Gracie had done in the UFC and was captivated. I had no training experience at all, was not an athlete, and had zero confidence that I could defend myself if needed. It was the hardest thing I had ever done walking into what seemed like the lion’s den. Little did I realize then how welcoming everyone would be, how much most of the students were more like me than I thought, and that 20 something years later I would be running my own gym.
And so, I get it. It’s difficult for many of us to make that decision to get in and start training. The training is difficult, and often frustrating. Despite what you may have heard, there’s no easy path to mastering the skills we are training. Whatever your reason for training, to learn self-defense, to become an MMA fighter, to get in shape, it’s not done overnight.
My mission is to make you believe that not only will you achieve your goals, but help you realize they were too low. That you could achieve goals that seem impossible. Unachievable. Learn important, maybe even life-saving skills, that will take you YEARS to master and love every minute of it.
